Resale has a new player with the launch of DICK’S Sporting Goods’ in-store buy-back program, available in select markets through a partnership with outdoor and adventure gear resale platform Out&Back. DICK’S will pilot the program at DICK’S Sporting Goods locations in Pittsburgh and Lakewood, Colo. and its Cranberry Township, Pa. Public Lands location. The program launched April 29 at the Public Lands location and will go live at the DICK’S stores in the next few weeks.
The program will accept hard and soft goods items such as outerwear, tents, backpacks, skis and snowboards, and DICK’s plans to add other categories as the program evolves. The retailer will accept goods for resale Friday through Sunday, with resold products generating instant cash payments for resellers. Out&Back and DICK’S will donate 1% of the value of resale offers to the environmental non-profit organization 1% for the Planet. With the resale category booming, the DICK’S-Out&Back partnership is entering the business during prime time as Earth Month comes to a close.
Out&Back has become a source for secondhand goods from brands including Patagonia, The North Face, Burton, Nordica, Arc’teryx, Atomic, Bent Metal, Blizzard Tecnica, GNU and Marmot. In 2022, it began selling products from labels including Carhartt, Herschel Supply Co., Pendleton, Roxy and Spyder.
“Since launching in 2019, we’ve seen 43% growth in the soft goods category and predict through our partnership with DICK’S and Public Lands we will see equal demand for hard goods in the outdoor and adventure space,” said Barruch Ben-Zekry, Founder and CEO of Out&Back in a statement.
