Container Store, Sam Edelman Join Rush to Resale

ThredUp Container Store

The Container Store has debuted its Closet Clean Out resale program for apparel and accessories, powered by the ThredUp Resale-as-a-Service solution. Additionally, footwear and apparel retailer Sam Edelman has launched its ReLove resale initiative with support from the Archive platform.

Known for its closets and organizational solutions, The Container Store’s program is unusual in accepting products for resale from categories that it doesn’t sell. Container Store customers can pick up a ThredUp Clean Out Kit at any of the retailer’s 97 stores or generate a prepaid shipping label from containerstore.thredup.com. For items that sell, shoppers can earn a Container Store eGift Card that’s good both online and in-store.

To kick off the program, the companies are sponsoring a giveaway on Instagram offering three winners $500 gift cards from both the retailer and ThredUp. The giveaway will close on May 5, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. Central; winners will be notified by May 12. The Closet Clean Out launch coincides with The Container Store’s Sustainable Living event, when its stores highlight the retailer’s assortment of sustainably-sourced product offerings.

“We could not be happier with this program, where our customers can give new life to their belongings as they clean out and organize their spaces and be rewarded with Container Store credit in the process,” said Melissa Collins, Chief Marketing Officer at The Container Store in a statement. “Together, we can slow fashion waste and reduce its impact on our planet.”

Sam Edelman customers can list their gently used Sam Edelman footwear on its ReLove page with photos and descriptions of the items. When they sell, customers will be sent a pre-paid label to ship the items to the purchaser. Sellers can then choose between cash or a Sam Edelman credit as payment.

“At Sam Edelman, we take pride in using the highest quality materials to design pieces that are made to last,” said Jesse Edelman, GM and SVP at Sam Edelman in a statement. “With ReLove, we can extend the life of our products while giving our customers another choice when buying our shoes.”
