Target Launches Awesome Shop To Showcase Most-Pinned Products

Published: December 12, 2013

Target has launched a beta version of Target Awesome Shop, a new web site powered by the image sharing site Pinterest. The site is designed to collect social data to feature Target products that have been pinned by consumers the most, as well as items that have been reviewed and rated frequently on the retailer’s e-Commerce site.

Data on each product is featured in the Awesome Shop, so consumers can see how many people “pin” an item or write a review for it. Consumers then have the option to “pin” the item to their own Pinterest account, access more detailed product information or complete a transaction.

Overall, Pinterest has been a key driver of engagement and revenue for Target. Since implementing Rich Pins — a tool that allows businesses to make their pins more rich and detailed — in early 2013, the retailer has seen a 70% increase in traffic from the social network, according to Target CMO Jeff Jones, as reported in a CNBC article.

The Target Pinterest page is updated and managed by team members to feature new products across a variety of categories, including style, furniture, electronics and beauty. The retailer currently has 45 pin boards on its account page.
