Gap Inc. has named designer Zac Posen as its EVP and Creative Director as well as Chief Creative Officer (CCO) at Old Navy. Posen’s 25-year career has included designing red carpet couture, ready-to-wear, accessories, costume design and more.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Zac Posen, one of America’s most celebrated designers, at the onset of an exciting new chapter for Gap Inc.,” said Richard Dickson, President and CEO of Gap Inc. in a statement. “His technical expertise and cultural clarity have consistently evolved American fashion, making him a great fit for the company as we ignite a new culture of creativity across the portfolio and reinvigorate our storied brands.”
Posen’s immediate focus as CCO of Old Navy will be leading design, merchandising and marketing for Gap’s largest brand, working in partnership with Old Navy CEO and President Haio Barbeito. As Creative Director of Gap Inc., Posen will serve as a cultural curator and creative partner to Dickson and join the company’s executive leadership team.
“Gap Inc. and its brands have shaped American fashion and pop culture for decades and there’s so much potential at Old Navy,” said Posen in a statement. “I’m eager to join Gap Inc. now as brand reinvigoration kicks up across the portfolio, rooted in great product, experiences and a new culture of creativity.”
Gap has been facing a number of challenges in recent months, including having to lay off 1,800 headquarters and upper-field employees in April 2023. The brand’s financial results for its Q3, which ended Oct. 28, 2023, showed a 7% net sales decrease compared to the same period the previous year, along with a comparable sales dip of 2%.
