Walmart Launches Supply Chain Training Academy

The Walmart Distribution Center in Sanger, Texas, is now home to the Walmart Supply Chain Academy, the first Walmart training program created specifically for the retailer’s supply chain associates.

The objectives of the Supply Chain Academy include:

  • Training and cultivating supervisors that can serve on the company’s front line;
  • Teaching proper leadership and safety protocol to employees; and
  • Aiding career advancement through the eventual implementation of course work in technology and other functions.

The Walmart Supply Chain Academy in Sanger is patterned after the 200 Walmart Academies that have trained more than one million store associates around the U.S.

Walmart plans to expand the Academy program to more distribution centers across the country over the next two years. Each Supply Chain Academy will serve approximately 15 distribution centers.

“I think it’s great that Walmart is investing this time in me,” said Jason Grounds, a Sanger shipping manager, in a statement. “I’m being taken off the floor, and they’re teaching me policies and things that don’t get a lot of focus otherwise, ways to be a better leader and take us back to the origins of the company with Sam Walton.”
