Rebag Introduces ‘Clair’ Software To Calculate Resale Value Of Luxury Handbags

Rebag has launched Clair, a proprietary software designed to serve as a luxury appraisal index for designer handbags. Clair includes a list of 10,000 bags across more than 50 brands, and automatically gives consumers the price that the resale company is currently willing to pay to acquire that item.

To use Clair, consumers navigate through the Rebag web site or mobile app to the Clair portal, where they can select details regarding the handbag’s brand, model, style, size, color and condition. Clair then generates the handbag’s resale value, which is designed to help consumers make smarter purchasing decisions by giving them the value upfront. Once consumers have seen the value, they can decide to hold onto the item, consign it, sell/trade it in through Rebag, or buy more of them elsewhere.

“With more and more consumers contemplating the resale value of their luxury purchases, we’ve created a taxonomy that provides a more transparent way for consumers to shop more wisely,” said Charles Gorra, Founder and CEO of Rebag in a statement. “We’ve spent years gathering data and analyzing the luxury handbag market. Clair is our way of sharing that knowledge with the world – and it’s only the beginning.”

The overall resale market has grown 21X faster than the retail apparel market over the past three years and is expected to reach $23 billion by 2023, according to the thredUP 2019 Resale Report. The rapid growth has been spurred by a group of disruptors in recent years, including Poshmark, The Real RealVestiaire CollectivethredUP, Depop and StockX.
