Ahold Delhaize USA will make the DoorDash on-demand grocery delivery marketplace available across its five supermarket banners: Food Lion, Hannaford, Giant Food, The Giant Company and Stop & Shop. The service already is live for most customers of these banners; Food Lion will pilot with DoorDash in February and expects to launch in its markets in March.
“As leading omnichannel grocery retailers in their markets, Ahold Delhaize’s U.S. brands are focused on providing fast and convenient grocery delivery for customers,” said JJ Fleeman, CEO of Ahold Delhaize USA in a statement. “The speed and ease of DoorDash and its strong reputation for providing great customers service aligns with the priorities of each of our local brands.”
All the Ahold brands’ loyalty programs are integrated into the DoorDash experience, and all participating stores will be available on the DoorDash membership program DashPass.
In June 2023 a top DoorDash exec discussed the company’s plans to move beyond restaurant deliveries to become the “local commerce company.” In January 2024 Vitamin Shoppe, JD Sports and Camping World added DoorDash deliveries to their offerings, following closely on Best Buy’s November 2023 addition of the service.
