Target to Debut Baby Boutiques at Nearly 200 Stores

Published: March 16, 2026

The bankruptcy-induced shuttering of BuyBuy Baby and Babies ‘R’ Us left a retail void, and while both brands are currently attempting to eke out comebacks, Target has a different, more immediate solution for expectant parents: its newly redesigned baby departments, now complete with a Baby Concierge service to help shoppers navigate the dizzying, often overwhelming, process of shopping for a the arrival of a new human.

The new Baby Boutique experience will launch in nearly 200 stores this month, alongside a refreshed online experience, with almost 2,000 new products, including Target exclusives and premium brands that parents have been asking for. The redesigned spaces also will be piloting a new Baby Concierge service, featuring one-on-one expert guidance by appointment from Tot Squad experts. Tot Squad representatives will be able to assist with everything from choosing the right stroller or bassinet to ensuring no must-have products are forgotten.

“The U.S. baby market is underserved,” said Michelle Evans, Global Lead for Retail Digital Shopper Insights at Euromonitor International in a LinkedIn post. “When BuyBuy Baby stores went bye‑bye in 2023 and again in 2024, it left a real gap for parents who want to see, touch and compare products in person. Target stepping into that white space makes sense. Features like drive‑up returns also help busy parents immensely. I used it last month — it took longer to drive across the parking lot than to complete the return — impressive.”

1,000 Target Stores to Feature Baby Gifting Area

The new Target Baby Boutique will come to life with an in-store celebration at a Target store in Boston on March 29, with additional baby experiences planned throughout the year. With curated products and more interactive displays, Target hopes to bring a specialty-style shopping experience to its stores.

Strollers and car seats are displayed side by side so parents can easily compare features and test them in person, and the retailer’s baby assortment will grow by nearly 2,000 new items this year, including new offerings from WildbirdLaloToddlekindWonder & Wise, NemahTubby ToddFreestyle and Amara, as well as national brand exclusives from brands such as JoieUpseatNanitHey Tiger and expanded offerings from Little Spoon. Target brands Cloud Island and Good & Gather also will add hundreds of new items across milestone gifts, plush, blankets, feeding and snacking essentials.

Additionally, nearly 1,000 stores will introduce a front-of-department gifting area that brings together seasonal finds and ready-to-gift favorites in one easy-to-shop space, making discovery even more convenient. This expanded assortment will be supported by easier digital browsing and comparison tools, as well as seamless registry planning in the Target app.

“Guests trust Target to show up for them during life’s biggest milestones,” said Amanda Nusz, SVP of Merchandising, Essentials and Beauty at Target in a statement. “Our focus is on bringing together products busy families will love at the value they expect, paired with expert guidance and joyful, easy-to-shop spaces that make preparing for a new baby feel both special and practical.”
