Intel Collaborates With Impinj To Combine Sensor Platform and RFID Technology

Intel and Impinj, a manufacturer of RFID devices and software, are teaming up to integrate the Intel Retail Sensor Platform, an inventory management system, into the Impinj RAIN RFID solution. The goal is to assist retailers as they aim to solve operational and business growth bottlenecks.

As part of the combined solution, Impinj will brand and sell the Intel Retail Sensor Platform, which integrates with the Impinj ItemSense software. The solution is designed to:

  • Improve inventory accuracy and visibility throughout stores;

  • Increase top-line sales through better on-shelf availability; and

  • Build an application-ready platform for business-transforming data analytics.

The joint effort is not the first time that Intel and Impinj have worked together. Since its inception, the Intel Retail Sensor Platform has relied on the Impinj Indy RS2000 Reader SiP (system-in-package) for performance and reliability for the RFID component of the platform. Also, ItemSense is specified to run on Intel Core i5 and i7 processors.

“This joint initiative incorporates technology and know-how from both companies,” said Eric Brodersen, President and COO of Impinj. “The powerful combination of the Retail Sensor Platform and ItemSense will help retailers grow their top line and gather data they can process with third-party analytics applications to help transform their business.”
