EBay Taps COO Of Walmart E-Commerce As New CEO

EBay has named Jamie Iannone, current COO of Walmart e-Commerce, as its new CEO. Interim eBay CEO Scott Schenkel will remain in the position until Iannone officially begins on April 27, and then will return to his previous role as SVP and CFO. Schenkel will continue working with Iannone after the transition to ensure a smooth transfer of leadership.

The appointment marks a return to eBay for Iannone, who has served in a number of leadership roles at the company, including Vice President, between 2001 and 2009. Prior to being promoted to COO of Walmart e-Commerce, he was CEO of SamsClub.com, where he oversaw initiatives in membership, marketing, technology, product and operations.

“EBay’s success has always been rooted in its robust consumer-to-consumer platform,” said Iannone in a statement. “I believe the company has tremendous opportunities to capitalize on this foundation, innovate for the future and grow its ecosystem. I look forward to working with our global teams to enhance buyer experiences and provide more capabilities that will help small businesses sustain and grow.”

Former eBay President and CEO Devin Wenig stepped down in September 2019 during a company-wide strategic review. EBay reported a 2% year-over-year revenue decline in Q4 2019, but overall revenues were up 1% for the year.
