Grocery Outlet Holding Corp., which operates more than 520 stores under various banners, and the 166-store supermarket retailer The Fresh Market have each named new leaders. Jason Potter, a 30-year grocery retail veteran, will take on the President and CEO roles at Grocery Outlet as of Feb. 3, 2025. Current Fresh Market COO Brian Johnson will become that retailer’s President and CEO, also on Feb. 3.

Potter succeeds Eric Lindberg Jr., who has held the President and CEO titles at Grocery Outlet on an interim basis since October 2024. Lindberg, a board member, will retain that position and work with Potter on his transition into his new role.

“With a clear mission of saving people money and a unique model that combines national buying power with local independent operators for the ultimate treasure hunt shopping experience, Grocery Outlet is a differentiated concept with a tremendous growth opportunity,” said Potter in a statement.”

Grocery Outlet expanded its footprint into the Southeast U.S. with its February 2024 acquisition of United Grocery Outlet.

A Fresh C-Suite at The Fresh Market

Johnson is only the latest newcomer to the C-suite at The Fresh Market: Revae Embs, Group VP of Human Resources; Emily Turner, Group VP and Chief Marketing Officer; and Marcio Ribeiro, Group VP and CIO all have joined the senior leadership team over the last year.

Johnson brings 30+ years of experience to help with his increased responsibilities, including serving as a Division VP at Brookshire Grocery Company in Texas. Over the past five years, he has helped oversee the expansion of The Fresh Market stores into new markets across the East Coast and Midwest.

In February 2024 The Fresh Market launched what it called a “shoppable video live commerce (SVLC) retail media network (RMN),” and in December 2024 the retailer deployed new in-store technology, including electronic shelf labels and improved inventory management solutions.
