Etsy has appointed its Chief Product Officer Kruti Patel Goyal as Depop CEO following the resignation of Maria Raga from the leadership role at the fashion resale marketplace. The appointment will be effective Sept. 12, 2022. Nick Daniel, Etsy VP of Product Management, has been promoted to the CPO role formerly held by Patel Goyal, and both Patel Goyal and Daniel will report to Etsy CEO Josh Silverman.

While Raga has resigned to “pursue personal ventures,” according to Etsy, she will remain as an advisor to Depop until Sept. 30, 2022 as Patel Goyal transitions into the chief executive role. Etsy bought Depop in June 2021 through a $1.6 billion acquisition.

Patel Goyal has worked at Etsy since 2011, starting her career with the maker marketplace as Director of Marketplace Integrity, Trust and Safety — the first person to fill this role. Ascending the ranks over the years, she has held roles leading global seller services, corporate development and managing the international growth team. Prior to joining Etsy, Patel Goyal focused on strategy and business development at Viacom and (RED). At General Atlantic Partners she was a growth equity investor in technology businesses. She began her career at Morgan Stanley working in mergers and acquisitions.

“Depop is a highly relevant and authentic recommerce brand that we believe is still early in its growth lifecycle,” said Silverman in a statement. “I have no doubt Kruti is the right leader for Depop’s next chapter as we focus on nurturing its passionate community and improving the customer experience. She has guided Etsy through periods of significant transformation, with a proven track record of motivating teams to deliver results and advance our mission.”

Since joining Etsy in 2014 as Senior Product Manager of Ads, Daniel has held multiple roles including leading the development of the company’s selling platform, advertising products, marketing technology, data enablement and personalization products. Daniel previously held roles at Google in sales engineering and at other companies has worked in consulting and software development.

“Nick is an Etsy veteran who has led some of our most impactful product initiatives that have enabled sellers to grow their businesses and drive more sales,” said Silverman. “Kruti and Nick stepping into these new roles reflects our efforts to nurture a deep bench of talent and leadership across our house of brands.”
