Walmart Debuts Latest Next-Gen Fulfillment Center in South-Central Pennsylvania

Walmart's Greencastle, Pa. fulfillment center

Walmart has opened the fourth of five next-generation fulfillment centers in Greencastle, Pa., 10 miles north of Hagerstown, Md. The 1.5 million-square-foot facility, which will employ more than 1,000 associates, is designed to expand access to next-day or two-day shipping for Walmart customers as well as supporting Walmart Fulfillment Services, the retailer’s third-party service for fulfilling items sold on Walmart’s marketplace.

“Walmart is paving the way for good jobs and great careers in the south-central Pennsylvania region with the Greencastle fulfillment center,” said Karisa Sprague, SVP, Fulfillment Network Operations for Walmart U.S. in a statement. “These tech-powered jobs will drive the future of Walmart’s continued promise of speedy shipping and delivery for customers on the east coast.”

In June 2022 Walmart announced plans for the first four next-gen fulfillment centers, and in October 2023 the retailer revealed that its fifth next-gen fulfillment center would open in 2026 in Stockton, Calif.
