DoubleBeam, a provider of mobile payments technology, has acquired GoPago, a mobile commerce solutions provider.
With the acquisition, DoubleBeam will be able to offer a POS and mobile commerce platform that extends across mobile, brick-and-mortar and online channels. DoubleBeam will now be able to offer a turnkey mobile commerce platform — with processing technology that is designed to be reliable and cost effective.
“We are very excited about the synergies between DoubleBeam’s leading mobile commerce solutions and the mobile point-of-sale systems that GoPago brings to the table” said Ted Tekippe, CEO of DoubleBeam. “The complimentary capabilities of these technologies will bring a unique and holistic solution to the retail industry. It’s exactly what our customers have been asking us for.”

In an unusual transaction, the GoPago sale has included two parts: DoubleBeam purchased the GoPago POS business and current merchandising relationships, while Amazon acquired the GoPago technology and engineering/product team, as reported by TechCrunch.
The DoubleBeam/GoPago news is the latest in a series of mobile payment acquisitions. The GoPago acquisition follows recent news that eBay completed the acquisition of Braintree for $800 million, while also acquiring the StackMob engineering team in the same week.
