Ahold Delhaize to Close 6 Centralized DCs as Store-Based Fulfillment Flourishes

Refrina-stock.Adobe.com

By the end of Q1 2026, Ahold Delhaize USA will shutter a centralized ecommerce fulfillment center in Manassas, Va. as well as five DCs in Pennsylvania in a move marking the supermarket giant’s transition to more local, store-based fulfillment models. The DCs slated for closure serve Ahold’s Giant Food and The Giant Company banners, and associates affected by this decision will be offered other positions within their company or have the opportunity to apply for open roles.

The banners will continue to offer delivery and pickup for ecommerce orders and will maintain relationships with third-party delivery platforms including Instacart and DoorDash.

The Pennsylvania fulfillment centers slated for closure, which serve The Giant Company, are located in Philadelphia, Willow Grove, Coopersburg, North Coventry and Lancaster. Ahold will take an estimated non-cash impairment charge of $35 million for shuttering these five facilities, while Giant Food’s decision to close the Virginia DC will generate an estimated non-cash impairment charge of $15 million.
