Walmart to Equip Stores with Disability-Friendly Carts

Walmart will roll out Caroline’s Carts — shopping caddies designed to help those caring for people with disabilities or limited mobility — in stores across the country by early 2025. The cart seat holds 35 to 250 pounds; Walmart will equip each Supercenter with two carts and each Neighborhood Market with at least one. Walmart’s order for approximately 8,000 carts is greater than all Caroline’s Cart orders combined since the company began manufacturing in 2012.

“Equipping our stores with Caroline’s Carts provides some relief to parents and caregivers who need this tool and know it’s available at their Walmart,” said Cedric Clark, EVP of Store Operations at Walmart in a statement. “Whether they’re caring for someone with a disability or a temporary injury, the carts support our customers when and how they need it every time they come through our doors.”

Walmart is among the retailers making efforts to improve the customer experience for people with disabilities. In July 2024 Walmart Canada added sensory-friendly hours in all its stores, following their expansion to all U.S. stores in November 2023. Lego made its U.S. and Canada stores “sensory inclusive” in April 2024.
