Regional Twin Cities grocery chain Lunds & Byerlys has invested in an AI-powered platform to monitor on-shelf inventories across its 28 locations. The retailer will use the Pensa solution to visually scan products in all categories, affording near-real-time access to data that’s valuable both to the grocer and its CPG partners.
Store associates will access the Pensa app through Zebra devices. The solution captures video streams of product images that will be used to identify stockouts, afford insight regarding availability of goods, enhance demand forecasting and omnichannel delivery. The technology can scan a single aisle in seconds and will require no changes to the retailer’s infrastructure or hardware.
Brands also will see benefits from this solution. Insights into out-of-stock data and share-of-shelf metrics will help Lunds & Byerlys’ CPG partners to:
- Ensure planogram compliance;
- Better manage merchandising;
- Improve demand and sales forecasts;
- More easily integrate product categories and portfolios; and
- Introduce new items on shelves more efficiently.
“For more than three generations, we’ve been committed to exceptionally high standards in everything we do — extraordinary food, passionate employees with expertise, and ultimately, an exceptional customer experience,” said Curtis Funk, SVP of Merchandising at Lunds & Byerlys in a statement. “We’re excited to deploy Pensa’s innovative shelf intelligence solution throughout our stores so that we can ensure that when our customers walk down our aisles, the products they love are on the shelf.”
