Irisys Introduces Footfall Analytics Solution Using Thermal Technology

, a thermal imaging solutions provider, has announced the launch of Gazelle, an analytics platform that collects data on consumers’ journeys through the retail store.

The solution is designed to collect behavioral and spatial data to generate performance analytics around footfall and traffic flows. Gazelle also is able to count the total number of people in a store.

Gazelle uses thermal sensing technology to detect body heat, allowing the device to track and interpret a customer’s presence and movement. Data collected by Gazelle serves a variety of purposes. For example, traffic pattern data can help team members design effective store layouts and modify hours of operation to create sales opportunities.

The solution also features an advanced path-mapping featured called WideTracker, which offers 16 counting lines, which provide more detailed behavioral insight in areas of the store not typically tracked by video.  WideTracker facilitates the collection of more detailed information on store penetration, customer / kiosk engagement, and customer flow and walk-through.

“In some ways, the technology behind some of the world’s leading shopping environments has not kept up with the pace of the design of those environments,” said Chris Precious, President of the Americas at Irisys. “Gazelle bridges that gap not just in its aesthetics, but in how it captures information. Its WideTracker gives the device a greater span of vision that counts more people in a greater range. The technology is also unobtrusive and does not capture any personal information about customers, associates or anyone within the building — which remains crucial to alleviating growing concerns about privacy.”
