With many SNAP recipients still in limbo, low-income consumers are definitely feeling the squeeze, so Target will cut prices this month on 3,000 food, beverage and essential items, including pantry staples, baby items and household goods. The retailer also is making a $500,000 donation to Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger relief organization in the U.S. and has brought back its Thanksgiving meal, offering a complete holiday dinner for less than $5 per person, featuring quality ingredients and trusted brands.
“I’m proud of the way our team moved quickly to lower prices on thousands of items our guests need most,” said Lisa Roath, EVP and Chief Merchandising Officer of Food, Essentials and Beauty at Target in a statement. “It’s important work that will make a difference for families managing tight household budgets during the holidays.”
The company’s latest Feeding America donation puts Target on track for more than $2.5 million in food security contributions and 150 million pounds of food donations in 2025, part of the $400 million in products and cash the retailer is on pace to provide to nonprofits this year. It also builds on Target’s decades of support for hunger relief, including more than $16 million in grants to Feeding America over the past two decades.
A number of retailers, including The Save Mart Companies, BJ’s Wholesale Club and H-E-B, along with delivery platforms such as DoorDash, have been making efforts to help consumers dependent on SNAP benefits, which have been in flux due to political conflicts for several weeks.
