The Body Shop has named Ian Bickley, a Board Director at the retailer’s corporate parent Natura &Co, as its interim CEO. Current CEO David Boynton is stepping down after more than five years in the post. During his tenure, the retailer rejuvenated nearly 500 products and launched its new Changemaking Workshop concept stores.
Bickley brings expertise in the retail and consumer goods sectors and an extensive background managing and growing international franchise opportunities, driving global omnichannel growth and pioneering innovation at companies including Coach and Crocs. He also has experience advising purpose-driven companies like The Body Shop, a B Corp-certified organization. The retailer’s latest sustainability initiative was to add makeup to its refill program in March.
In his new role, Bickley will work with The Body Shop’s executive leadership team to accelerate the retailer’s transformation agenda as it seeks to speed up the road to profitability together with a return to sustainable revenue. He also will work with Natura &Co’s leadership to find a permanent successor to Boynton.
“In these incredibly challenging times, the world needs The Body Shop’s spirit of activism and outstanding social and environmental credentials more than ever,” said Bickley in a statement. “It will be my privilege to support the brand as we move into this next chapter.”
