Big Lots is utilizing an on-demand pay service in hopes of both enticing new hires and retaining current employees.
The 1,421-store retailer said it expects to onboard 15,000 employees during the holiday season. The new DailyPay feature will give Big Lots’ store and distribution center workers daily access to earned income so they do not have to wait for a traditional payday.
Big Lots also offers its employees a 30% store discount, plus additional discounts on cell services and computers.
“Our people are invaluable to our success,” said Bruce Thorn, Big Lots CEO and President in statement. “We take pride in taking care of our team members, and we’re always eager to welcome new associates to the Big Lots family to support our growing business.”

Retailers are going to greater efforts than usual to recruit and retain employees for the 2021 holiday season. Kroger said it is holding nationwide hiring events with a goal to add 20,000 associates. Target plans to pay $2 per hour more during peak holiday season periods.
