By the end of 2026, Walmart de México y Centroamérica will deploy a connected store platform from Vusion across its Walmart Express smaller-format stores, to be followed by installations throughout Walmart México’s supercenters. Across the initial deployment, Walmart Express stores will be equipped with more than 1.7 million electronic shelf labels (ESLs) and more than 180,000 EdgeSense smart rails.
Additionally, Walmart México will begin a pilot deployment of the technology in its Bodega format to evaluate potential support for additional store formats as part of the retailer’s connected store strategy. Walmart México operates more than 3,300 stores total, including 1,548 Express stores and 338 Walmart Supercenters.
The initiative builds on Walmart and Vusion’s long-term relationship, which last month saw the retailer announce that it would expand Vusion’s ESLs to all 4,600 U.S. stores from the current 2,300 locations equipped with the technology.
“The rollout of EdgeSense across Walmart Express stores and the planned expansion to supercenters represent a major milestone in our shared vision of building the connected store of the future,” said Philippe Bottine, Deputy CEO and EVP Vusion Americas in a statement. “By combining AI, computer vision and real-time data, EdgeSense helps retailers achieve new levels of operational excellence while delivering better experiences for both associates and shoppers.”
In December 2024 The Fresh Market deployed VusionGroup solutions across 166 stores, and in October 2025 UK supermarket Morrisons announced plans to deploy ESLs from VusionGroup across nearly 500 stores.
