Ikea has expanded its partnership with online home services marketplace Taskrabbit, enabling customers to easily book and pay for Taskrabbit furniture assembly at the time of their Ikea purchase.
Ikea’s partnership with Taskrabbit, to help customers with the headache of putting together its flat-packed furniture, has been in place since 2017, but with this expansion booking services can now be done in one step during checkout at Ikea.
“Taskrabbit’s assembly service has been a game-changer for our customers, offering them convenience and reliability, two must-haves when shopping at Ikea,” said Javier Quiñones, CEO of IKEA U.S. in a statement. “This integration also provides Ikea with a competitive advantage — we’ve seen improved customer satisfaction and increased sales as customers include assembly with their furniture purchase.”
Better Integration Leads to Reduction in Returns, Increase in AOV
The Taskrabbit offering is available at Ikea locations in every major U.S. metro area where there are stores, as well as nationwide in Canada, Spain and the UK.

Historically, Ikea customers could request a furniture assembly quote through the Ikea website while purchasing their furniture, but booking and paying for the assembly service required a separate step on Taskrabbit’s platform. Now, customers can arrange for professional assembly from “Taskers” at an up front transparent price, directly at Ikea checkout.
Initial results of the streamlined integration show that 50% more customers are adding assembly to their purchase through the new booking experience compared to the previous process. Additionally, after introducing this new integration, the average order value for purchases that include assembly has increased 4.7X and resulted in a nearly 40% reduction in returns of some of the retailer’s most complex furniture items.
Taskrabbit Looks to Expand Offering Beyond Ikea
The success of its partnership with Ikea has prompted Taskrabbit to explore similar partnerships with other retailers and it has encouraged companies to reach out.
“We’re excited to bring Taskrabbit’s assembly service to more Ikea locations, offering customers a reliable, hassle-free solution that enhances their overall shopping experience,” said Ania Smith, CEO of Taskrabbit in a statement. “Longer term, our goal is to scale our offering to additional retailers to provide scalable, high-quality services that surpass customer expectations and drive meaningful value to our partners.”
