Digital engagement platform Relationshop has acquired global ecommerce company Stor.ai, which offers a solution that supports regional grocers by cultivating omnichannel engagement with consumers. The new entity will be known as Stor.ai, a Relationshop Company, and will better position regional grocers to compete against major supermarkets via a single commerce solution that blends engagement with customer insight.
Currently, Relationshop serves clients such as Albertsons, United Supermarkets and Big Y Foods as well as 11 U.S. regional grocers with its omnichannel and personalization tools for health and nutrition, loyalty and rewards programs, email and SMS marketing, digital circulars and data analytics of online, offline and hybrid customers.
Stor.ai serves more than 200 businesses globally and over 100 customers in the U.S., including Southern California grocery chain Vallarta Supermarkets, which deployed the company’s technology in July 2022 to bolster its online shopping and fulfillment.
Relationshop CEO Galen Waters will assume the role of CEO of Stor.ai. Waters’ 50-year career in the retail industry, starting with Safeway Stores, includes launching grocery marketing startup Adplex and founding Relationshop in 2007 as Go Think! Mendel Gniwisch will transition from Stor.ai CEO to President and board member, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions and international operations.
The acquisition of Stor.ai allows Relationshop to cultivate an intelligent commerce — or “icommerce” — approach to omnichannel solutions. This icommerce approach relies on a combination of “intelligent data, individual engagement and integrated shopping,” according to a Relationshop statement.
“We believe that for regional retailers to compete with WIKA (Walmart, Instacart, Kroger and Amazon), they need a technology solutions partner and unified technology platform that drives all commerce — that’s icommerce,” said Waters in a statement. “By merging the Relationshop shopper engagement and personalization suite with the ecommerce and fulfillment platform of Stor.ai, our clients will be able to provide a transformational and frictionless digital shopping experience to their customers that drives both online and in-store activity.”
