Sam’s Club Adds Inventory Management Functions to In-Store Cleaning Robots

Sam’s Club will add Inventory Scan capabilities to its existing fleet of nearly 600 robotic scrubbers chainwide, in partnership with Brain Corp and Tennant Company. The robots will be able to capture data as they move through their respective store and deliver actionable reports to club managers.

The information collected by the robots can be used to assist with tasks including verification of pricing accuracy, planogram compliance and checking stock levels. Sam’s Club is adopting these processes to reduce waste and help fight inventory loss.

“Sam’s Club is hyper focused on making sure our members have a seamless shopping experience, so any time-saving innovation we can implement is significant,” said Todd Garner, VP of In Club Product Management at Sam’s Club in a statement. “By adding Inventory Scan to our current fleet of robotic scrubbers, we obtain critical inventory data that previously was time-consuming to obtain. This intelligence allows us to proactively manage our clubs in an efficient manner. Inventory Scan assures items are available and easy to locate in the club, freeing up time for our associates to focus on members and the shopping experience they deserve.”

The rollout is the first commercial application of Brain Corp’s inventory scanning technology anywhere in the world. Walmart has been working with Brain Corp and Tennant, which produces the robots themselves, since the retail giant started rolling out the floor-scrubbing robots in 2018.

Shelf analytics have been a planned feature since Sam’s Club began introducing its own robots in fall 2020. “This latest iteration of our valued and longstanding partnership with Sam’s Club marks the beginning of realizing the next phase in our company’s vision,” said Eugene Izhikevich, CEO of Brain Corp in a statement.
