Best Buy Names Company Veteran to Succeed Retiring Barry as CEO

Published: April 22, 2026

Best Buy will be led by 26-year company veteran Jason Bonfig when CEO Corrie Barry steps down on Oct. 31, 2026 after seven years in the top job. Bonfig, currently Best Buy’s Chief Customer, Product and Fulfillment Officer, will be just the sixth CEO in the retailer’s history, and his appointment follows an extensive search process undertaken by the company’s board. Barry will remain as a strategic advisor for an additional six months after she steps down.

“I am deeply honored to take on this role,” said Bonfig in a statement. “I look forward to working closely with our incredible teams as we lean on our values, culture and strategic advantages to grow our business and create exciting new opportunities for our company.”

In his current role, Bonfig oversees core elements of Best Buy’s business, including merchandising, ecommerce, marketing, supply chain, Best Buy Canada and the Best Buy Ads retail media network. He led the relaunch of Best Buy’s third-party marketplace in the U.S. in December 2024, eight years after the company had abandoned its first marketplace efforts, and has been instrumental in scaling the retailer’s ad business.

“As a board, we are confident that Jason is the right leader to accelerate the business with urgency and innovative ideas and create meaningful growth for the company and its shareholders,” said David Kenny, Chair of the board of directors of Best Buy in a statement. “At the same time, this opportunity is only possible because of Corie’s extraordinary leadership over the past seven years. She guided Best Buy with a confident and steady hand and an unrelenting commitment to drive value for our employees, customers, partners and shareholders through some of the most tumultuous and uncertain times we have ever seen.”

In November 2025 Best Buy launched Ikea shop-in-shops in six stores, with plans to expand to additional locations.
