Ross Stores is opening 29 new locations in 12 states over June and July as it continues to move toward its goal of opening approximately 100 new brick-and-mortar stores in FY 2022, which ends Jan. 28, 2023. The Dublin, Calif. off-price apparel retailer plans to open 75 Ross Dress for Less and 25 dd’s DISCOUNTS stores.
The most recent store openings consist of 21 Ross Dress for Less locations and eight dd’s DISCOUNTS stores, bringing the combined total to 1,980 locations across 40 states, the District of Columbia and Guam.
“These recent openings reflect our ongoing commitment to expanding our two chains,” said Gregg McGillis, Group EVP of Property Development for Ross Stores in a statement. “This summer, we expanded our presence in our largest markets of California, Florida and Texas, and also added locations in newer states, including North Carolina for dd’s as well as Ohio for Ross. Looking ahead, we remain confident in our ability to grow to at least 2,900 Ross Dress for Less and 700 dd’s DISCOUNTS locations over time.”
The Ross Stores expansion comes during a time of growth among off-price and discount retailers offering reasonably priced options to cost-cutting consumers during this period of high inflation. Burlington also plans to open new locations this year, forecasting 90 net new stores during FY 2022, which ends Jan. 28, 2023. During its FY 2023 period ending Jan. 28, 2023, TJX aims to open 55 stores in its Marmaxx division, which includes TJ Maxx and Marshalls.

Even the luxury segment of off-price retail is expanding its brick-and-mortar footprint, albeit not as aggressively. Saks Off 5th opened its first location since 2018 with the July launch of an Eastchester, N.Y. location. A new Stamford, Conn. Saks Off 5th store is scheduled to open this fall.
