NCR Acquires StopLift To Address Self-Checkout Theft And In-Store Shrink

NCR Corporation has acquired StopLift Checkout Vision Systems, an intelligent computer vision systems provider for retail POS platforms. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

With the growth of Amazon Go and other competing technologies in the cashierless self-checkout space, NCR is reinforcing its focus on self-checkout solutions.

NCR will integrate ShopLift’s AI capabilities to help businesses address in-store shrink concerns. The technology is designed to detect unusual and possibly fraudulent behavior through security video and data. Users can visually determine what occurs during each transaction to distinguish between legitimate and fraudulent behavior, detect scan-avoidance and flag unscanned, unpaid merchandise at checkout.

NCR also recently acquired payment processor JetPay as part of its strategy to develop recurring revenue streams and offer expanded software and services. The company plans to integrate JetPay’s cloud-based payments platforms into its enterprise POS terminals for retail and hospitality.
