In his new role, Bompard is tasked with “boosting the performance of the French hypermarkets,” according to a company statement. He also will be managing the planned initial public offering of Carrefour’s Brazilian arm, and decide how to proceed with the business suffering losses in China.

Investors hope that Bompard can help Carrefour catch up in the digitalization of retail. Despite Carrefour’s recent struggles, analysts are optimistic about the new hire.
