Walmart has named Jamie Iannone Chief Operating Officer for U.S. E-Commerce, according to an internal memo seen by CNBC. He will report to CEO of U.S. E-Commerce Marc Lore and Walmart CEO John Furner, and will oversee the retailer’s e-Commerce groups.
Iannone most recently held the role of CEO at Sam’s Club. He also has served as President of Digital Products at Barnes & Noble and held several leadership positions at eBay.
Iannone’s promotion is the latest of several major developments in Walmart’s e-Commerce operations over the past week as the retailer continues to ramp up its operations:
- The revelation of plans to launch a new fee-based membership program, Walmart+, designed to compete directly with Amazon Prime;
- The introduction of Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS), which gives Walmart Marketplace sellers access to additional storing, picking, packing, shipping, returns and customer service capabilities; and
- The merger of its online and store buying teams into a single omnichannel buying team, with the goal of making operations more profitable and delivering more consistent pricing.
