Kroger is holding its second nationwide hybrid hiring event next week, with a goal of hiring 20,000 associates for the holiday season. For its part, Target is gearing up for the season not with additional hires but with an extra $2 per hour for each hour worked during peak moments through the holiday season.
On Oct. 13, Kroger will conduct online and on-site interviews as it looks to find talent for retail, ecommerce, manufacturing, supply chain, merchandising, logistics and corporate positions. Kroger held a similar hiring drive in June to add 10,000 workers.
Target said it is offering an additional 5 million hours to current employees, adding up to more than $75 million in pay throughout the holiday season. The move is in conjunction with its plan to hire fewer seasonal workers this year. Through a new mobile scheduling app, Target employees can add or swap shifts that align with their schedules.
