Duane Reade Launches First Mobile App

Duane Reade
has launched its first mobile application for iOS devices to enhance current offerings, such as: pharmacy services, photo printers, prescription refills, Balance Rewards offers, account information and in-store maps. The app is free and currently is available in the iTunes store.

Features of the app include:

  • Passbook — Users who have updated to iOS6 can access their Balance Rewards account through Passbook.
  • Pharmacy — Shoppers can receive instant prescription refills by scanning the barcode on the prescription bottle and receive refill reminders via Rx Text Alerts.
  • Photo — App users can access QuickPrints to choose pictures from iPhone albums, then order, print and pick up at a local Duane Reade or Walgreens.
  • Shopping — This feature offers in-store maps and a Store Locator.

This introduction is part of the 250+-store drugstore chain’s ongoing omnichannel initiatives. In February 2013, Duane Reade partnered with Google to introduce the Niantic Labs Ingress mobile gaming app. Additionally, the merchant has focused on its Twitter presence, increasing the number of followers from 15,000 to more than 390,000 in seven months, according to a company press release.
