Groupon Enters mPOS Space, Launches Restaurant iPad App

Groupon has entered the restaurant POS system market with a new offering called Breadcrumb, an iPad-based mobile POS application. With the restaurant-focused app, Groupon is going head-to-head with traditional restaurant POS providers such as OpenTable, Aloha and MICROS, and will compete with mobile payment leader Square.

Items such as cash drawers, receipt printers and the bane of chefs everywhere -- kitchen order printers -- can be incorporated into the mobile POS system. Managers use Breadcrumb to dive into sales, food costs and labor information, and to receive reports via email.

Padres Ballpark Store Implements ShopperTrak To Assess Traffic Trends, Increase Conversion Rates

The Padres Majestic Team Store, the ballpark-based store selling San Diego Padres baseball team fan products, announced the implementation of the ShopperTrak Managed Service solution. The goal of the initiative is to increase conversion rates by gathering and assessing foot traffic data and trend analytics.

Unlike traditional retail sites, the Padres Majestic Team Store experiences significant traffic variations on game days versus non-game days. Traffic trends and conversion rates revealed by ShopperTrak is expected to help store managers take smarter steps toward capturing shopper opportunities on days with increased ballpark attendance. Conversion numbers will help guide promotions to drive fans to the store on non-game days and convert more browsers into buyers. Further, store managers plan to use traffic data to schedule staff more effectively, thereby providing a better shopping experience for Padres fans.

Walmart Introduces Reloadable Prepaid Card Service

Walmart is launching an affordable and convenient way for customers to load money onto individually branded prepaid cards such as Account Now, Achieve Card, H&R Block, Momentum, Money Network, MyVanilla, NetSpend, PayPal, Rush Card and Upside, among others.

Available today in more than 3,800 Walmart stores nationwide, the Walmart Rapid Reload service allows consumers to add money to their cards at any register, for a low price of $3.74. Until now, consumers have been paying up to $5 to add cash to their cards.

Town Shoes, a mall-based retailer of high-grade footwear and fashion accessories, fully implemented Vision Merchandising and Vision Store solutions from Jesta I.S. across 69 newly acquired Canadian stores ― in 90 days.

The smooth implementation of these platforms across all stores in such a compressed timeframe “impacted the core of our business,” said Peter Gerhardt, CFO of Town Shoes, “with minimal impact to normal operations.”
