Daily deal company Groupon has acquired social gifting company Boomerang in an effort to expand its variety of products and services for consumers. 

As a result of the deal, Boomerang will fold into the Groupon web site as “Groupon Freebies,” which will provide users with promo codes, free offers and coupons from their favorite stores.

, a sustainable fashion eTailer, has announced the acquisition of Ethical Ocean, an online marketplace designed to provide access to eco-friendly products and services. As of December 1, 2013, all Ethical Ocean shoppers automatically are redirected to the web site.

Akamai To Acquire Prolexic For $370 Million

, a cloud-based provider of online data security, is acquiring Prolexic, a company focused on protecting data centers and enterprise IP applications from distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, for $370 million. 

The acquisition is designed to provide customers with a comprehensive portfolio of security solutions that can defend companies’ web and IP infrastructure against application-layer, network-layer and data center attacks delivered via the Internet.
