Strangeloop Mobile Site Optimizer Speeds Content Delivery For Enhanced User Experience

Given the continued rapid growth of mobile device adoption, shoppers expect a stellar, mobile-optimized experience from the e-Commerce web sites they visit. Industry insiders note that whether or not a retailer intends to “go mobile,” it’s a natural progression for consumers to expect e-Commerce sites to be optimized for mobile devices. In fact, a recent Tealeaf survey found that 85% of mobile users expect sites to load at least as fast, if not faster, on their mobile devices. Frustrated by the lack of ease-of-use, shoppers often abandon non-mobile optimized web sites.

For retailers, there are significant obstacles to delivering this content and user experience, including huge pages, low bandwidth, poorly powered devices and network limitations.  The Strangeloop Mobile Site Optimizer is a front-end solution, available as either a service via the cloud or an appliance in the datacenter, designed to work around these obstacles to deliver pages up to 3.5 times faster, automatically.

Mobile Site Optimizer entered beta with select customers in September 2011 and will be available to all Strangeloop customers in April 2012. The tool intercepts page code and translates it into the most efficient language for the mobile browser reading it, without changing the design of a retail e-Commerce site. Strangeloop has developed 11 advanced treatments that break new ground in mobile site optimization. These proprietary treatments include:

  • Mobile SuperCache – Leverages an HTML5 feature called Local Storage to create a mobile browser cache that is comparable to a desktop cache;
  • Touch Event Conversion – Designed to convert click events automatically to touch events, relieving the mobile browser of the real-time overhead of click-to-touch translation; and
  • Dynamic Payload Decision Making – Recognizes if a user is visiting via Wi-Fi or 3G/4G and customizes site optimizations so they do not consume unnecessary data.

“Using the Mobile Site Optimizer, we’ve seen a 50% performance improvement on our site,” said Parag Patel, CTO, AutoAnything, an eTailer of discount auto parts and accessories and Strangeloop customer. “Any speed improvement inevitably results in higher conversion. The benefits of mobile acceleration couldn’t be clearer.”
