Crate and Barrel Joins Geo-location Bandwagon With shopkick Partnership

Home furnishings provider Crate and Barrel yesterday announced a new partnership with location-based application provider shopkick. With the holiday shopping season in full swing, location applications are gaining momentum by providing consumers rewards and coupons for using their smart phones to check in to stores. A number of retailers — including Best Buy and Target — are capitalizing on the growing trend. Crate and Barrel is the third retailer to partner with shopkick in the last month, according to a press release.

Crate and Barrel is offering the promotion to shoppers beginning on Saturday, December 18 in the greater Chicago and New York metropolitan areas. Shoppers will have the opportunity to earn rewards for visiting and checking in to store locations via smart phone.

Users also can earn “kickbucks” for scanning and learning about store merchandise. Kickbucks can be redeemed for rewards such as: gift cards, discounts at top retail stores, song downloads, movie tickets, hotel vouchers, Facebook Credits to play games online, or donations to 30 different causes and charities.

A nationwide rollout of the partnership will be completed by February 2011, according to the release. Crate and Barrel joins American Eagle Outfitters, Best Buy, Macy’s, Simon Malls, Sports Authority, Target, and The Wet Seal on the shopkick partner roster. The app is available to customers at no charge on the iPhone and Android.
