MaxMedia Launches Labathon Challenge To Spur Retail Innovation

MaxMedia, a digital retail experience agency, is launching its inaugural Labathon Challenge on Jan. 19, 2017. The 20-hour “hackathon”-style competition will host 20 college students across four teams, and is designed to encourage the development of innovative experiences that support the future of brick-and-mortar retail.

The winning team will receive $5,000 in scholarships toward continuing education.

Applications are due by Dec. 16, with participants to be selected and notified by Dec. 30. The MaxMedia Retail Lab, a space designed to provide visitors with the chance to experience new technologies applied within a retail context, will provide the student teams with tools and technologies throughout the event.

The MaxMedia lab creates simulated retail environments to support its ongoing research and development across solutions and in-store design strategies, aiming to help retailers create emotionally charged retail experiences at scale.

The Labathon Challenge celebrates MaxMedia’s 20th anniversary and is designed to align with the company’s commitment to hiring local talent across multiple disciplines, including animation, design and creative development.

“Our commitment to the future of retail is, in part, predicated on discovering new talent that will serve as the industry’s next innovators,” said Keelhn Wheeler, CEO, MaxMedia. “We’re looking for a variety of student talent, whether he or she possesses a particular skill set or is considered a Jack-or-Jill-of-all-trades.”
